Do IUDs cause pelvic inflammatory disease, or increase the risk of infection?

There is no evidence that having an IUD increases your risk of infection or pelvic inflammatory disease. There is a small risk of infection associated with the insertion procedure but this is reduced by screening for STIs in users who might be at higher risk.
