Do IUDs cause ectopic pregnancies?

An ectopic pregnancy is one that occurs outside the womb. By decreasing the risk of pregnancy, IUDs have been shown to decrease the overall risk of ectopic pregnancy. However if you do become pregnant while using LARC (which you have a 0.9% chance of), you will have a slightly higher chance that the pregnancy will be ectopic than women who do not use birth control.
