Yes and no. The Copper IUD can cause heavier periods, and potentially more cramping. The Hormonal IUD can cause irregular bleeding for the first 3 to 6 months, and the number of bleeding days may increase. However, with the Hormonal IUD, by the end of the first year, about 1 out of 5 users may have no period at all.
